A Czech payments technology distributor has established a nationwide payment network for credit card merchant acquirers there using technology from the point of sale terminal maker Hypercom Corp.
The Phoenix company said Tuesday that its Czech distributor, Sonet Ltd., is operating the network and that three of the country's top five merchant acquirers are already using it to deliver about 2.5 million payment card transaction per month from 183 towns and cities.
Within the next year, Sonet expects the HyperNET network to expand to reach more than 7 million Czech credit and debit cardholders in 265 cities.
The network links Hypercom payment terminals to Global Payments Inc.'s European unit for authorization.
Hypercom said its payment systems are now in use in more than 100 countries.
Jan Pistelak, Sonet's general manager, said in a Hypercom press release that the company selected Hypercom "because they were able to provide an end-to-end solution, including transaction aggregation equipment and management software, as well as payment terminals."
