CHICAGO - Sears, Roebuck and Co.'s Dean Witter Financial Services Group earned $114.3 million in the third quarter, 24% more than in the 1991 period.
Credit services, including the Discover card, contributed $69.2 million, up 42% from $48.9 million. Securities income was $45.1 million, compared with $43.2 million in 1991.
For the nine months, Dean Witter reported 36% income growth, to $355.7 million, while credit services gained 45%, to $260.8 million.
Hit by hurricane-related insurance claims against its All-state subsidiary, Sears as a whole lost $833.7 million in the third quarter, compared with a year-earlier profit of $229.2 million.
