Deutsche Postbank AG says using a faster internal data network from Voltaire Ltd. will help it improve the performance of its online banking application, accelerate the delivery of information to customers, and save money.

"More and more customers are using Internet online banking," said Jens-Christian Pokolm, an analyst in Postbank's information technology services unit. "The request from the banking department was to speed that up as fast as possible."

In the third quarter Postbank began testing switches and software from Voltaire, an Israeli developer of grid network backbone technology. Postbank expects to go live with the technology next quarter, Mr. Pokolm said in an interview last month.

The network is meant to help Postbank access the encrypted database it uses to store transaction numbers for security and disaster recovery. Postbank is a beta customer of the latest version of Oracle Real Application Clusters from Oracle Corp. of Redwood City, Calif.

The InfiniBand network cut response time for the databases in half, he said.
