Diebold Sells Security Enhanced ATMs in Kenya

Diebold is making its Opteva line of automatic teller machines available in Kenya, according to African news website Standard Digital.

In the past, the North Canton, Ohio company has touted the family of ATMs for their fraud deterrence capabilities. Opteva ATMs contain sensors that continuously monitor the card reader to detect skimmers and other fraud tools.

The ATMs also emit an electromagnetic field that helps block card skimmers in their attempt to steal customer information.

"Providing a secure environment for ATM users is essential to maintain consumer confidence," Xavier Bianne, Diebold's sales vice-president in charge of Europe, middle East and Africa, told Standard Digital.

The devices, according to the report, will be distributed by African payments system seller Tracom.
