District Hopping

Two Republican members of the House Financial Services Committee have averted a collision at the ballot box.

As a result of redistricting, Reps. Gary Miller and Ed Royce had both been planning to run in California's 39th congressional district, which includes parts of Orange County, Los Angeles County and San Bernardino County.

But on Thursday, Rep. Jerry Lewis announced his plans to retire. Within hours, Miller said that he would run in Lewis' 31st congressional district.

That news was welcomed by Royce, a potential candidate to become the Financial Services Committee's next chairman if he wins re-election. "In his race for the 31st District, Gary Miller has not only my endorsement, but my full support and backing in his upcoming election," Royce said in a press release.
