The remittance provider DolEx Dollar Express Inc. is now offering Online Resources Corp.'s electronic bill-payment services to customers.
The agreement, announced Tuesday, adds DolEx to the growing roster of money-services businesses offering bill-pay services.
"It's about convenience for the consumer," Robert Craig, an executive vice president at Online Resources and the general manager of its e-commerce services unit, said in an interview. "Billers are looking to serve consumers where consumers choose to do their finances."
DolEx, a unit of the Atlanta payments processor Global Payments Inc., operates 785 stores in the United States.
Online Resources, of Chantilly, Va., offers three tiers of bill-payment services: expedited payments, with guaranteed same-day posting to billers in Online Resources' network; next-day payments to the same billers; and standard, online bill pay to almost any U.S. payee.
Global Payments provides card processing and money transfer services from the United States and Europe to destinations in several regions.
Online Resources has struck five such deals for walk-up bill payment, though it has announced only one other partner, Ace Cash Express Inc. of Irving, Tex.
In walk-in bill-payment services, DolEx competes against companies such as Fiserv Corp.'s walk-in payment unit CheckFreePay, remittance providers such as Western Union Co. and MoneyGram International Inc., and IPP of America Inc., a Fairfield, N.J., money-services business.
