Despite opposition from an Australian regulator, eBay Inc. is urging customers there to comply with its recently issued payment restrictions, though it has delayed the start date.
The San Jose auction company has told users there that they would be required to use only its PayPal Inc.'s electronic service for purchases not completed in person.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission said this month that it plans to issue a ruling next month rejecting eBay's new policy. However, The Sydney Morning Herald reported Friday that eBay has told users it plans to move forward with the payment policy.
"We strongly recommend that in order to ensure your listings comply with the Accepted Payments Policy you remove any details of payment methods other than PayPal," the letter said.
The auction company has said the policy will reduce fraud. Critics have said it will be inconvenient for customers.
