Ex-Truist Chief Financial Officer Daryl Bible to join M&T as CFO

Daryl Bible, the former chief financial officer at Truist Financial, will take over as CFO at M&T Bank in the second quarter of 2023, the Buffalo, New York, bank said Thursday.

M&T CEO René Jones called Bible, who spent 14 years at Truist and its predecessor BB&T Corp., a veteran of the banking industry.

"His strong performance … including shepherding one of the largest financial services mergers in recent history, will be a key asset to our leadership," Jones said in a statement.

Daryl Bible will succeed Darren King as chief financial officer at Buffalo, New York-based M&T Bank.

Bible helped guide BB&T in its 2019 merger with SunTrust Banks. The combined bank, Truist, now holds about $548 million of assets.

M&T did not disclose how much it expects to compensate Bible. He made about $8 million in 2021 with Truist.

Bible is not the first former Truist executive to leave and work for another regional bank in the years after the BB&T-SunTrust merger.

Brant Standridge joined Huntington Bancshares as its head of consumer and business banking in March. Standridge also spent 14 years at BB&T and Truist, most recently as Truist's chief retail community banking officer.

Bible will replace current M&T CFO Darren King, who will remain at the bank, managing businesses including retail and business banking, mortgages and consumer lending.

King's compensation in 2021 totaled almost $3 million, according to company filings. Before becoming CFO, King led the bank's retail banking arm. He joined M&T in 2000.

In May of this year, Bible said that he would retire from Charlotte, North Carolina-based Truist. Three months later, Truist named Mike Maguire as Bible's successor. Maguire led Truist's consumer finance and payments business before taking over as CFO.

Also on Thursday, M&T said that Chris Kay, an executive vice president overseeing consumer and business banking and marketing, will become head of the bank's enterprise platforms team in the second quarter of next year.
