Executive Changes: 1st Union Makes Hoak President For Eastern North

First Union Corp. of Charlotte, N.C., has redrawn the boundaries of its eastern North Carolina region and named Robert G. Hoak as regional president.

The newly defined region includes the Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Wilson, Fayetteville, Rocky Mount, Southern Pines, Greenville, and Clinton markets. Mr. Hoak will be in charge of commercial and consumer banking there. He will work out of Raleigh.

Mr. Hoak had been based in Richmond, Va., since 1994 as executive vice president and wholesale bank executive for Virginia, Maryland, and Washington. Earlier he worked in Georgia-as the Savannah area president and, still earlier, the Cobb County corporate banking manager in Atlanta. Before that he managed the corporate banker training program in Charlotte; still earlier he was a corporate banker in Hickory, N.C.

Jim Fain, president of First Union's Triangle region-Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill-will report to Mr. Hoak.

Ron Hankins used to be the president of First Union's old eastern North Carolina region, which was based in Charlotte. He is still in North Carolina, but now he is based in Greensboro as president of the company's Piedmont Triad region, which also includes Winston-Salem and High Point.
