UMB Financial Corp. of Kansas City, Mo., has promoted K.C. Mathews to executive vice president and chief investment officer of its UMB Bank.

Mathews had been a senior vice president and managing director of portfolio management at the bank since 2002. Before Mathews joined UMB he had been the president and manager of the portfolio management group at Bank of Oklahoma for nine years.

Earlier he worked for the securities firm Kidder, Peabody & Co.

Mathews will report to Clyde Wendel, the president and chief executive of the personal financial service arm of UMB.

UMB Financial has $12.2 billion of assets.


MIDDLE ATLANTIC

Sun Bancorp Inc. of Vineland, N.J., has hired Robert B. Crowl as executive vice president and chief financial officer of the company and its Sun National Bank.

Crowl had been executive vice president and chief operating officer of the mortgage division of National City Corp. from 2007 to 2009. PNC Financial Services Group Inc. bought National City in December 2008. Before that he had been a senior vice president and the comptroller of National City since 2004. Earlier he had been a senior vice president and manager of National City Bank's asset and securitization arm since 1998. Before he joined National City he had worked at Crestar Bank for 12 years. SunTrust Banks Inc. bought Crestar in 1998.

Sun Bancorp has $3.5 billion of assets.


SOUTHEAST

CNLBank of Orlando has promoted Jay A. McLaughlin to chief information officer.

McLaughlin will remain a senior vice president. He had been the director of information technology since he joined the bank in 2007 from CNL Retirement Properties Inc., a company that operated under the CNL name but was an independent entity before Health Care Property Investors Inc. bought it in 2006. He had been a vice president for CNL Retirement since 2002.

CNLBank also promoted Cindy K. Fife to vice president and controller.

Fife will continue to manage the accounting department, which she has done since joining the bank in 2006. Before that she was an audit senior at Hacker, Johnson and Smith PA.

CNLBank has $1.6 billion of assets.


Southern National Bancorp of Virginia Inc. in McLean has hired Carl J. Wallace as chief credit officer of its Sonabank.

Wallace had been an executive vice president of Millennium Bank from 2005 to 2009 and had been chief credit officer since 2007. Before that he had been chief risk officer of Millennium since 2005.

Southern National Bancorp has $611 million of assets.


WEST

Celtic Bank of Salt Lake City has hired Dan O'Meara as a regional vice president of Small Business Administration business development for Colorado.

O'Meara had been a business development officer and lender for Colorado at U.S. Bank since 2008. Before that he was a regional sales manager for Ciena Capital LLC in Greenwood Village, Colo. He will be based in Denver.

Celtic has $209 million of assets.


Umpqua Holdings Corp. of Portland, Ore., has hired Cort O'Haver as its executive vice president of commercial banking for its Umpqua Bank.

O'Haver was an executive vice president and director of corporate banking at Mechanics Bank in Richmond, Calif. Before that he was a senior vice president for the northwest at U.S. Bancorp.

Earlier he was the regional manager of real estate banking for Northern California for the company. Umpqua has $9.3 billion of assets.


Heritage Bank of Olympia, Wash., has hired Jeffrey J. Deuel as its executive vice president of corporate strategies.

Deuel was the executive vice president of commercial operations at JPMorgan Chase & Co., which he joined when it bought his previous employer, Washington Mutual Bank, in 2008. He was a senior vice president and commercial credit risk administrator at Wamu. Before that he was the senior vice president of the commercial strategy group. He had worked at Wamu since 2001.

Heritage has $860 million of assets.
