40|86 Advisors Inc., a Carmel, Ind., unit of Conseco Inc. that manages fixed-income investments, has hired Brian J. Hamel as its director of marketing.

Mr. Hamel was a managing director at ING Clarion Capital, where he marketed to consultants and plan sponsors.

Before that he had held senior investment marketing positions at Globalt Investments of Atlanta. Earlier he had worked for 13 years at MetLife Inc., where he rose to the position of national sales director of institutional investment services.


MIDDLE ATLANTICPrudential Financial Inc. has named Peter Sayre its controller.

Mr. Sayre, a 19-year veteran of the Newark, N.J., company, will continue to lead its tax department.

Prudential also said Dennis Sullivan, its deputy controller, has taken on the additional job of principal accounting officer.

Bank of America Corp. of Charlotte has named Daniel K. Fitzpatrick the president of its Pennsylvania banking operations and its market president for Philadelphia.

Mr. Fitzpatrick is also the middle-market banking executive for Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey.

He came to B of A in April, when it bought FleetBoston Financial Corp., which he had joined last year. Earlier he had held senior leadership jobs at PNC Capital Markets Inc. and CoreStates Bank.


New York Life Investment Management LLC of Parsippany, N.J., has hired Tony Elavia as the chief investment officer of its newly formed equity investors group.Mr. Elavia has also been named a senior managing director at the New York Life Insurance Co. unit. He was a managing director and the senior portfolio manager of the large-cap growth team at Putnam Investments, a Boston subsidiary of Marsh & McLennan Cos.
