Bank of America Corp. has promoted Kieth Cockrell to Michigan state president and Scott Stearsman to regional manager for Michigan and Indiana.
Mr. Cockrell will remain a regional executive of Michigan, Illinois, and Indiana, and a market president for Detroit. He was the national sales executive for global consumer and small business banking.
Mr. Stearsman was a consumer market president in Charlotte.
MIDDLE ATLANTICMerrill Lynch & Co. Inc. has rehired former fixed-income executive Jeffrey Kronthal as a consultant to advise on subprime and other mortgage-related portfolios.
He will report to David Sobotka, Merrill's new global chief of fixed-income, currencies, and commodities.
Mr. Kronthal left Merrill in July of 2006 amid a shake-up in the company's fixed-income operations. He had been at the company since 1989.
WESTWashington Mutual Inc. of Seattle announced that Fay L. Chapman will retire as a senior executive vice president and its chief legal officer.
Ms. Chapman will be a consultant for the company for two years to assist with the transition.
Stewart M. Landefeld will succeed Ms. Chapman as the chief legal officer on an interim basis. Mr. Landefeld is a partner with Perkins Coie LLP, a Seattle law firm.
Ms. Chapman has been with Wamu since 1997.
INTERNATIONALNorthern Rock PLC of London has promoted Andy Kuipers to chief executive.
He will succeed Adam Applegarth, who left the company Dec. 13, two months earlier than expected.
Mr. Kuipers had been a director and an executive in charge of sales, marketing, pricing, and retention activities.
Bear Stearns Cos. and Eagle Investment Group have jointly hired Steven Kwok to head their private equity effort in Asia.Mr. Kwok will be based in Beijing and will be in charge of managing the strategic alliance between Bear Stearns, Bears Stearns Merchant Banking, and Eagle. In early 2007, Bear Stearns and Eagle each pledged $250 million to invest together.
Mr. Kwok was a managing director and a senior management member at Orchid Asia Group Management Ltd. in Hong Kong.
Before that, he was the head of UBS AG's Greater China division, focusing on growth capital invesments.
