NEW ENGLAND

Tolland Bank in Vernon, Conn., has assigned Craig Porter to head operations and customer service and Dennis Cardello to head retail sales. Both are vice presidents.

Mr. Porter will be in charge of customer service, electronic commerce, and operations. He was vice president in charge of retail sales. He joined the bank in 1988.

Mr. Cardello is to be in charge of retail and small-business sales. He joined the bank last year as a vice president and commercial loan officer.

Tolland Bank, a subsidiary of Alliance Bancorp of New England, has $306 million of assets.

SOUTHEAST

BankAtlantic Bancorp in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., has hired Jay Fuchs to be executive vice president of its BankAtlantic subsidiary.

Mr. Fuchs is to oversee the sales and sales management functions of the community banking, small-business, consumer lending, and residential lending divisions. He also is to manage the bank's 68 branches and its information technology operations.

Mr. Fuchs was president of American Bankers Insurance Co. in Miami from 1995 to 1999. From 1991 to 1995 he was president of American Bankers Life Assurance Co. He worked 22 years for American Bankers Insurance Group.BankAtlantic Bancorp has $4.2 billion of assets.


Imperial Bank has hired Bob McClenahan to be a vice president and business development officer in the Memphis office of its small-business lending division.Mr. McClenahan is to develop Small Business Administration-guaranteed loans for businesses throughout the Southeast. He is to report to Martin Carr, senior vice president and regional manager of the small-business lending division.

Mr. McClenahan had been a vice president and business development officer at Bank of the West in Memphis and earlier in San Francisco. Before that, he was a vice president and business development officer at $1 billion-asset Cupertino National Bank, a subsidiary of Greater Bay Bancorp in Palo Alto, Calif.

Imperial Bank, in Inglewood, Calif., has $7 billion of assets.

WEST

Business Bank of Nevada in Las Vegas has hired Laurie Burk and Bruce Bettridge to be senior vice presidents and Pamela Pallan to be a vice president.

Ms. Burk is to be in charge of operations and human resources for the bank's four branches. Earlier she worked 40 years at Bank of America.

Mr. Bettridge is to be the officer supervising all commercial lending. He was an executive vice president at Nevada Bank and Trust in Ely, where he had worked 16 years.

Ms. Pallan is to be relationship manager for the bank's Plaza office. She came from Community Bank of Nevada and has 20 years of banking experience.

Business Bank of Nevada has $140 million of assets.


City National Bank in Los Angeles has promoted Heng Chen, Dallas Haun, and Bob Patterson to executive vice president.All three are also on the bank's executive committee.

Mr. Chen heads the finance division. He was senior vice president of the division. He joined City National in 1984 after being a senior audit manager at Price Waterhouse in Los Angeles.

Mr. Haun supervises the South Coast commercial banking region, which includes South Bay, Long Beach, Orange County, and San Diego. He was a senior vice president in the region. Previously, he was president and chief operating officer of Harbor Bank in Long Beach, which City National bought in 1998.

Mr. Patterson heads the Ventura County and San Fernando Valley regions. He was regional senior vice president. He joined City National in 1989 after working 17 years at Security Pacific National Bank, which was bought by Bank of America in 1992.

City National Bank is a subsidiary of $8.4 billion-asset City National Corp. of Beverly Hills.
