MIDDLE ATLANTIC

M&T Bank Corp. in Buffalo said Robert G. Wilmers, its president and chief executive officer, has also been named chairman.

He succeeds Robert J. Bennett, 59, who also retired as vice chairman of the company's Manufacturers and Traders Trust Co.

Mr. Wilmers has worked at M&T since May 1983, when he joined it from a post in Belgium with Morgan Guaranty Trust Co.

Mr. Bennett remains a member of both the holding company and bank boards and of their executive committees. He has worked at M&T since April 1998 when it bought Onbancorp in Syracuse, N.Y., of which he was chairman, president, and CEO.

M&T Bank Corp. has $21.7 billion of assets.


SOUTHEASTSouthTrust Bank has promoted Heather Summers to the newly created post of director of wealth management for the Broward County, Fla., region.

She was also named a group vice president of the SouthTrust Corp. unit.

Ms. Summers, who is based in Fort Lauderdale, joined SouthTrust in April as a private banker. She came from SunTrust in Plantation, Fla., where she had been a vice president and branch manager.

Before her six years at SunTrust she worked at Coral Gables Federal Savings and Loan Association, where she began her banking career in 1988. First Union Corp later bought that institution.

SouthTrust Corp., based in Birmingham, Ala., has $43.9 billion of assets.


SOUTHWESTGuaranty Federal Bank in Dallas has promoted two senior officers - Robert B. Greenwood to executive vice president and managing director of the corporate finance group and Paula Hurst McGee to executive vice president and managing director of the loan support group.

Mr. Greenwood has worked at the bank since 1991. He will remain in charge of lending to middle-market businesses, the corporate syndicated loan portfolio, and the commercial finance group.

In 1970 he began his banking career in First City Houston's credit training program, where he worked for three years. He was a senior vice president of commercial lending for a year at Bank One in Austin, Tex.

Ms. McGee has worked five years at Guaranty Federal. Before joining it, she was a senior vice president and manager of loan operations at Team Bank One in Fort Worth, where she worked for 18 years.

Both Mr. Greenwood and Ms. McGee will report to John Stuart, chief lending officer. Guaranty Federal has $14 billion of assets.
