State Street Research and Management in Boston has hired Warren Toland as public relations manager.

He will report to Robyn Tice, vice president of public relations.

Mr. Toland was the public relations director and assistant director of development at Austin Preparatory School in Reading, Mass., where he worked for two and a half years.

He has six years of public relations experience. State Street Research is a subsidiary of Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. and has $54 billion of assets in management.


SOUTHEASTWachovia Corp. in Winston-Salem, N.C., has promoted Tammy F. Hughes, a vice president in its Wachovia Corporate Services Inc., to a senior vice presidency in the unit.

Her duties did not change. She is a senior loan administration officer in the U.S. corporate finance group.

Ms. Hughes, who is based in Atlanta, joined Wachovia in 1986 as a management associate and was named a vice president in 1993 and a senior relationship manager in July 1996.


MIDDLE ATLANTICCitibank Private Bank has hired Frances Aldrich Sevilla-Sacasa as head of its Southeast region and a managing director.

She will be based in Miami, as she had been throughout her 17 years as a Latin America private banker.

Until shortly before Deutsche Bank AG bought Bankers Trust Corp. in 1997, Ms. Sevilla-Sacasa was the managing director of Latin America private banking in the Miami office of Bankers Trust International Private Banking Corp. She had joined Bankers Trust in 1983.

Earlier she had worked for Lehman Brothers' private client services group as a Latin America private banker, with the rank of senior vice president.

At the Citigroup Inc. unit Ms. Sevilla-Sacasa succeeded Steve Fee, who retired from the post. She will report to Geoffrey von Kuhn, the head of eastern region U.S. private banking.


MIDWESTDeutsche Financial Services in St. Louis has hired Greg Winn as senior vice president of outside sales in its technology leasing group.

He will report to Mark Kelly, president of the group.

Mr. Winn was vice president of sales and marketing in London for Lucent Technologies Product Finance International. He developed and implemented sales programs in Europe, Latin America, and the Asia-Pacific region. He has more than 25 years of banking and equipment leasing experience.

At the Deutsche Bank unit he succeeded Michael Dundon, who became a senior vice president of business development.


WESTRobertson Stephens in San Francisco has hired Eric J. Rothdeutsch as senior semiconductor analyst and a principal. Mr. Rothdeutsch was senior semiconductor equities analyst and a vice president at Merrill Lynch in New York, where he worked for a year.

He has 15 years of experience in semiconductors, including positions as a vice president at SoundView Technology Group and a senior semiconductor analyst at Volpe, Brown, Whelan & Co., both in San Francisco, and a district sales manager at Synopsys Inc. in Bethesda, Md. Robertson Stephens is a subsidiary of FleetBoston Financial Corp.


City National Bank of Beverly Hills, Calif., has hired Deborah L. Huffman as senior vice president and manager of private banking in San Diego.She was a vice president of private banking for Northern Trust Bank, her employer for four years.Ms. Huffman has 28 years of financial services experience, including positions at Chase Manhattan Bank, Bank of the West, and California First Bank.

In the City National post she succeeded Shelly Hendrickson and will report to Fred Baranowski, senior vice president and manager of the bank's San Diego commercial banking center.
