NEW ENGLAND

Bank of Newport in Rhode Island has hired Andrew C. Hewitt as senior vice president, chief financial officer, and treasurer.

Mr. Hewitt was a vice president of commercial banking at Huntington Bancshares in Columbus, Ohio, where he worked for 10 years. He had started at Huntington as vice president of corporate planning and analysis, then had become director of finance and administration for the Cincinnati region.

Before that he had worked for a year at New Hampshire Savings Bank in Concord and for 12 years at Society Corp. in Cleveland, which KeyCorp bought in 1994.

Bank of Newport has $700 million of assets.


MIDDLE ATLANTICHudson Valley Bank in Yonkers, N.Y., has hired Frank J. Skuthan as executive vice president and marketing director.

Mr. Skuthan was a vice president and senior consultant at Analytici, a New York database marketing, a subsidiary of the FCB Worldwide advertising agency. Before that he had been a marketing director at Ernst & Young's national tax practice.

Earlier he had been the senior vice president of marketing for the commercial banking group at National Westminster Bank USA in New York, where he had worked for 18 years.

Hudson Valley, a subsidiary of Hudson Valley Holding Corp., has $1.2 billion of assets.


Beneficial Savings in Philadelphia has named Steven Head, who was the vice president of Philadelphia business development for PNC Bank of Pittsburgh, as its own director of business development.He reports to Paul R. Driscoll, an executive vice president at Beneficial.

Mr. Head worked at PNC bank, a subsidiary of the $72 billion-asset PNC Financial Services Group Inc., for eight years. Before that he had been an assistant vice president in charge of two branch offices and an area sales representative at Fidelity Savings Bank in Pittsburgh, his employer for two years. He has 19 years of banking experience.

Beneficial has $1.8 billion of assets.


WESTManufacturers Bank in Los Angeles has hired Dorcas W. Shaktman to oversee the development and marketing of commercial banking deposit products, including cash management services.

Her title is vice president and group product manager.

Ms. Shaktman was a senior vice president and cash management sales and services manager at City National Bank in Beverly Hills. Before that she held a similar post at First Los Angeles Bank, which City National acquired in 1995. She has 20 years of banking experience, including senior management jobs at the former Key Bank of Washington and Security Pacific Bank in Los Angeles.

Manufacturers, a subsidiary of Sakura Bank Ltd., has $1.1 billion of assets.


Temecula Valley Bank in Temecula, Calif., has hired Lesliegh Baker to run its Small Business Administration lending in Orange and Riverside counties.She reports to Wanda Allen, senior vice president and SBA department manager.

Ms. Baker was a vice president and business development officer at BYL Bank Group in Yorba Linda, Calif. She has three years of business financing and SBA lending experience and seven years of experience as a practicing attorney in business and civil litigation.

Temecula Valley has $100 million of assets.
