ABN Amro's North American unit in Chicago has given William Thornton and Willie Miller the title of executive vice president.

Their responsibilities do not change.

Mr. Thornton, 50, is the chief administrative officer at ABN Amro North America Inc., a post he has held since 1995. He is also a member of the North American unit's executive management committee.

Before becoming ABN Amro North America's chief administrative officer, he was the group senior vice president of administration at European American Bank, a New York subsidiary of ABN Amro, where he had also been a member of the executive management group and of the asset and liability committee.

Still earlier he worked in the human resources department at AMF Corp. and Gulf Western Industries Corp. He started his banking career in 1973 in the commercial banking department at Chase Manhattan Bank, where he had also worked in the human resources department. He also has held jobs at the former Bankers Trust Co.

Mr. Miller, 47, has been the chief legal officer for ABN Amro's North American operations since last year. Before that he was head of the company's Chicago legal department, where he supervised its attorneys and managed litigation and employment practices.

He started his legal career at ABN Amro in 1981.


MIDDLE ATLANTICLehman Brothers in New York has named former Rep. John Kasich, chairman of the House Budget Committee from 1995 to 2000, as a managing director in its investment banking group.

The Ohio Republican, first elected to the House in 1983, did not run for reelection last year.

At Lehman he is to have responsibilities across a range of industry groups, including health-care, power and utilities, financial institutions, consumer, and technology, said Bradley H. Jack, the firm's head of investment banking.


SOUTHEASTKeyCorp in Cleveland has named Colleen M. Murphy president of its Florida district, which includes banking and asset management services in Fort Myers, Naples, and North Palm Beach.

She succeeds Thomas R. Becker, a 33-year veteran of KeyCorp who retired after five years as Florida district president. Ms. Murphy is responsible for broadening the company's client base and presence in the district.

She was a senior vice president and the district sales manager in charge of Key's private banking and investing in Syracuse, N.Y., a post she had held since 1998. She has 24 years of experience in financial planning, sales, and business development.


WESTSunAmerica Financial Network Inc. in Los Angeles has named Russ Phillips as its chief marketing officer.

He is responsible for coordinating the branding, partnering, and promotional activities for SunAmerica Financial's six broker-dealers.

Mr. Phillips, 51, was the senior vice president of sales and marketing at one of the broker-dealers, Royal Alliance Associates of New York. Before that he had been the senior vice president of nonproprietary products at Prudential Investments in Newark, N.J.

He has 20 years of financial product sales and marketing experience.

SunAmerica Financial is a subsidiary of SunAmerica Inc., which specializes in retirement savings.


Wells Fargo Home Equity in San Francisco, a unit of Wells Fargo & Co., has hired John Barton to manage the community banking customer channel.Mr. Barton, who was also named a senior vice president, is responsible for overseeing home equity sales in the parent company's banking stores. He reports to Doreen Woo Ho, president of Wells Fargo Home Equity.

He was a vice president and the head of Chase Manhattan Corp.'s direct home equity division in New York for three years. He had worked at Chase for 20 years.
