MIDDLE ATLANTIC

Flushing Financial Corp. has hired John R. Buran to be chief operating officer and an executive vice president of the company and its Flushing Savings Bank. He reports to Michael J. Hegarty, president and CEO of the $1.3 billion-asset company.

Mr. Buran, 51, was executive vice president of the New York metropolitan division of the formerly Melville-based Fleet National Bank (now based in Providence, R.I.), where he worked four years. Before that he was a senior vice president and the head of retail services in the consumer banking group of the former Jersey City, N.J.-based Natwest Bank (now Fleet National Bank) for two years. Earlier he had been vice president of New York investment sales at Citibank. He has 20 years of banking experience.


SOUTHEASTHamilton National Bank in Miami has hired Lucious T. Harris to be chief financial officer and an executive vice president.

He is responsible for all aspects of accounting, reporting, and financial planning for the $1.7 billion-asset bank, which specializes in trade finance.

Mr. Harris was chief financial officer at Coral Gables, Fla.-based Alenet Inc., a start-up provider of computer application services. Before that he was an executive vice president and CFO at Miami-based Capital Bank, titles he retained at Union Planters Bank in Florida when the Tennessee bank bought Capital Bank in 1997.

Earlier he was a senior vice president and CFO at Miami-based Crescent Heights of America, a real estate development firm. He started his financial services career in 1978 as a staff auditor at Arthur Andersen & Co.
