Executive Changes

UBS Warburg LLC in New York has hired Jeffrey A. McDermott, a Salomon Smith Barney managing director, at the same rank as joint global head of basic industries corporate finance.

He was also named a vice chairman of the corporate finance department in the Americas. He reports to Robert Hotz, the head of that department.

Mr. McDermott was co-head of the industrial large-cap group at Salomon Smith Barney, a Citigroup Inc. unit for which he had worked nine years.

UBS Warburg has also hired Colette Fleming as a senior wireless telecommunications services analyst and an executive director. She reports to Raul Esquivel, director of U.S. research.

Ms. Fleming was a senior wireless services analyst at Morgan Stanley Dean Witter & Co. Before that she had been a senior member of the mergers and acquisitions team at Nynex.


Morgan Stanley Dean Witter & Co. has hired Stephen Liguori, the head of Citibank NA’s e-consumer unit, as the executive vice president of its global retail marketing team; and Catherine Davis, the vice president of advertising and brand management at Discover Financial Service, as a senior marketing executive for the team.Mr. Liguori is in charge of strengthening the marketing activities of the firm’s worldwide individual investor and asset management businesses. Ms. Davis, who reports to him, is in charge of directing brand management, advertising, and marketing communications for those businesses.

Mr. Liguori had worked four years for Citigroup Inc., including a stint as chief executive officer of Citibank FSB. Before joining Citigroup he had held jobs in general management and strategic marketing at Phillip Morris Cos. and Pepsico Inc.

Ms. Davis had worked three years at Discover.


New York Life Insurance Co. has given Carol S. Mayer, an associate general counsel since 1996, the title of vice president.Her responsibilities did not change. She manages the individual life unit of the office of the general counsel, providing legal counsel to the individual life, individual annuity, individual policy services, financial management, and corporate communications departments.

Ms. Mayer joined New York Life in 1993 as an associate counsel and became an assistant general counsel in 1995.
