J & W Seligman & Co. in New York has hired Edward Rieger as a vice president in the firm's institutional marketing group and the product manager for its newly created post-venture distribution management service.

The service provides investment management, trading, and administrative services to institutional recipients of stock distributed from private equity funds or shares given as donations.

Mr. Rieger, 37, is in charge of marketing, client service, and product management. He also works directly on client development and service in the endowments and foundations market.

He reports to Rodney Smith, managing director in charge of the investment manager and adviser's institutional business.

Mr. Rieger was a vice president of sales and marketing in the asset management group at the Bank of New York. He has 11 years of endowment and foundation experience.

J & W Seligman has $31 billion of assets under management.


MIDWESTBank One Corp. in Chicago has hired John M. Kramer as a deputy general counsel in charge of capital markets and investment management and has promoted James Roselle to deputy general counsel in charge of commercial lending, operations, and contracts.

Both were also named senior vice presidents.

Mr. Kramer, 37, had been a general counsel at ABN Amro Inc. for three years. He had joined the company as an internal counsel four years ago, when it acquired his previous employer, Chicago Corp., for which he had been an internal counsel for five years. Before that he had been an internal counsel for the unrelated Chicago Capital Fund Inc.

Mr. Roselle, 54, who was the head of Bank One's international practice group, has worked in the company's law department since 1973.

The two men report to chief legal officer Christine A. Edwards, who leads the law, compliance, and government relations department.


Provident Financial Group Inc. in Cincinnati has hired Robert F. Hartman as a senior vice president and a senior strategist in its Provident Investment Advisors Inc.Mr. Hartman was the chief investment officer and a managing director at Tapke Hartman Asset Management LLC, a Crestview Hills, Ky., investment management firm he helped form in 1999. Before that he had been a vice president, a senior investment manager, and a portfolio manager at Huntington National Bank in Columbus, Ohio.
