MIDWEST

Fifth Third Bancorp of Cincinnati has promoted Mark Erhardt and Joe Pappano from vice president to senior vice president.

Mr. Erhardt will remain a line of business product manager. Mr. Pappano will remain the director of merchant sales for Fifth Third Processing Solutions.

Before he took his current position, Mr. Erhardt was a vice president and the marketing director for Tennessee. He joined Fifth Third as a senior market research analyst in 2001, when it bought Old Kent Financial Corp. of Grand Rapids. He had worked for Old Kent since 1994.

Mr. Pappano oversees the development, strategy, process improvement, and administration of all sales channels and Card Management Corp., an Evansville, Ind., provider of credit and debit card services to financial institutions. Fifth Third bought Card Management in 2006.

Before taking his current position, he was the national sales manager for Fifth Third's processing unit, Midwest Payment Systems.

He joined Fifth Third in 1992 as a merchant processing sales representative.


MIDDLE ATLANTIC

Bank of America Corp. in Charlotte has hired David Flannery as its global head of leveraged finance.

Mr. Flannery had been the global head of leveraged finance at Deutsche Bank AG since early this year. Before that he had been its head of leveraged finance in the United States.

Earlier he had been the head of leveraged capital markets. Before that he had been the leader of high-yield capital markets since 2002.

He joined Deutsche Bank in 1992.


SOUTHEAST

Wachovia Corp. has hired Sridhar Chityala as head of its electronic commerce division.

Mr. Chityala was the head of the telecommunication business unit in Citigroup Inc.'s credit card division, where he helped orchestrate a partnership with AT&T Inc. and introduced PayPass applications for credit cards.

Before that he had been an executive vice president of electronic business at JPMorgan Chase & Co., where he oversaw retail banking, bank cards, home and auto finance, and middle-market business.

Earlier he had been a senior executive for Chase Manhattan Corp.'s electronic credit card business.

He will report to Ranjana Clark, the head of marketing for Wachovia, and will oversee the Charlotte company's electronic channels, as well as its overall online integration.
