Lazard Ltd. of New York has promoted Antonio Weiss to global head of mergers and acquisitions.
Weiss had been vice chairman of European investment banking since 2006.
He will remain a managing director, a rank he achieved in 1999 after joining the firm in 1993.
WESTUnionBanCal Corp., a San Francisco subsidiary of Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group Inc. in Tokyo, has hired Brian Hawley as market president for retail banking in Northern California.
Hawley was an executive vice president at Countrywide Bank where he oversaw the development and implementation of growth strategies in the bank's real estate and insurance businesses.
UnionBanCal also promoted John Sinnema to vice president and relationship manager and hired Candice Nakagawa to be a vice president and relationship manager in a private bank branch of its Union Bank in Los Angeles.
Sinnema was a manager of Union Bank in Toluca Lake. He joined the bank in 2002 and before that worked for Technisource Inc.
Nakagawa joined the company in December. Before that she had been a vice president for private banking in the wealth and institutional management division of Comerica Bank since 2006.
