Executive Changes: CIBC Securities Unit Hires 2 Equity Researchers

CIBC World Markets in New York has hired Hampton Adams and Charles Lynch for its U.S. equity research team.

CIBC World Markets is the investment banking and securities arm of Toronto-based Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce.

Mr. Adams is an executive director in charge of CIBC's telecommunications software coverage. He was a senior analyst at Volpe Brown Whelan & Co., covering the communications software sector. Before that he was an equity research analyst at ING Baring Furman Selz. Mr. Adams is based in CIBC's San Francisco office.

Mr. Lynch is a director, covering health-care services, in the New York office. He was an equity analyst at Schroders, which he joined in 1997. Before that he was a research analyst at Bankers Trust.


MIDWESTU.S. Bank in Chicago, a unit of Minneapolis-based U.S. Bancorp, has promoted Mark A. Wertz to managing director and Louise Hildebrand to senior trust consultant in its private financial services unit. Both posts are newly created, resulting from reorganization of the unit.

Mr. Wertz is to be in charge of business development. He was vice president of business development for the unit. He joined the bank and its private financial services unit in 1995.

Ms. Hildebrand is to be in charge of private financial services for Illinois. She was vice president and trust manager for the Chicago region. She joined the bank in 1972.

U.S. Bancorp has $77 billion of assets.


SOUTHEASTFleet Mortgage in Columbia S.C., has hired Gloria Weston to manage its new sales branch there.

Ms. Weston is to be in charge of loan origination in Fleet's South Carolina market.

She was president and owner of the former Mid State Mortgage Co. in Columbia for nearly 12 years. Earlier she worked two years at Carolina First Mortgage.

Fleet Mortgage Group is a unit of $185 billion-asset FleetBoston Financial Corp.


Comerica Inc. has hired Dawn Lee to be an assistant vice president and portfolio manager in the Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., office of its private banking division.Ms. Lee was an investment officer and portfolio manager at First Union National Bank in Atlanta. She has six years of trust and investment experience.

Detroit-based Comerica has $37.2 billion of assets.


WESTBank of the West in San Francisco, a unit of BancWest Corp. of Honolulu, has hired Donald R. Evans and Todd P. Winslow to be business development officers with the rank of vice president, and it hired Donald W. Mercer to be vice president and manager of its Novato, Calif., office.

Mr. Evans is to be based in Reno, Nev. He had worked three years at Bank of America in Reno, most recently as a premier banking client manager. Earlier he was a construction/residential loan officer at First Security Bank.

Mr. Winslow was president of Creative Ingredients Inc., a consulting firm in Fresno, Calif. Earlier he was co-owner and vice president of the consulting firm Innovative Products Sales and Marketing Inc.

Mr. Mercer was a vice president and branch manager at California National Bank in Beverly Hills.
