FHA Loan Insuring to Total 2M in Year

The Federal Housing Administration said it expects to insure more than 2 million single-family loans in the current fiscal year, which ends Sept. 30, and to insure another 2.25 million the next fiscal year.

Based on average loan size, this year's volume would total $367.5 billion, if that goal is achieved.

During the first nine months of the current fiscal year, the FHA endorsed about 1.39 million loans, totaling $255.8 billion. For all of last year it guaranteed 1.2 million.

A report posted on the Department of Housing and Urban Development's Web site this month says that the FHA insured 197,600 loans in July, a record.
