Verizon Communications Inc. is offering phones preloaded with mobile banking software from Firethorn Holdings LLC.
The Basking Ridge, N.J., wireless carrier said last week that the banking software is available on several handset models, and that it plans to expand the technology's rollout in the next few months.
Verizon announced an agreement in October to load Firethorn software on the phones. AT&T Corp., a major Firethorn supporter, began offering the software preloaded on its phones in November.
Several banking companies, including BancorpSouth Inc., Wachovia Corp., and SunTrust Banks Inc., already use Firethorn's software to let customers do things such as check balances, make bill payments, transfer funds between accounts, and view account activity through mobile devices.
