Firethorn Holdings LLC, an Atlanta unit of Qualcomm Inc., has added offers and rewards functions to its mobile banking application.
Last week Firethorn said it has upgraded its hosted application to provide the new functions to users' handsets.
The new capabilities have the potential to change the application from a simple mobile banking technology, for uses such as balance inquiries, to more a sophisticated tool for mobile commerce, the unit said.
Kyle Cochran, Firethorn's director of product management, said the new features includes a longer account history, rather than just the five most recent transactions, and the ability to view credit card or loan accounts, in addition to checking and savings.
"The financial institution can show anything it wants," he said.
The upgrade also allows banks and merchants to use the handset to store loyalty reward points and to extend special offers to consumers, Mr. Cochran said. "Offers can be unique down to the user."
