The Denver transaction processor and banking technology provider First Data Corp. said it is using biometric authentication technology from BioPassword Inc. of Issaquah, Wash., to improve security in its fraud detection service.
First Data said Tuesday that it has incorporated BioPassword's biometric keystroke recognition software into the hosted authentication service it offers to financial companies and other types of businesses.
The biometric technology evaluates an individual's typing patterns to determine when an unauthorized person is trying to access an account.
BioPassword's software also uses more common authentication techniques, such as passwords and asking people challenge questions.
"The beauty of this technology is that it's transparent to consumers yet provides another layer of protection to limit risks and reduce fraud potential," Mike Geppert, the general manager of First Data's data solutions group, said in a press release.
