First Data Resources to Consolidate Operations Units

First Data Resources Inc., the world's largest third-party processor of credit and debit card transactions, last week announced plans to consolidate its operations units.

Officials at First Data, a division of the American Express Co.'s information services subsidiary, said the client-services functions located in Lake Success, N.Y., and San Mateo, Calif., will be merged by yearend into the company's main operations center, in Omaha.

The client-services department acts as a liaison between client banks and First Data's computer operations personnel.

The consolidation will affect 120 employees in New York and 90 in San Mateo, all of whom will be offered the chance to relocate.

Several banks have in recent months announced plans to consolidate their operations -- including Northern Trust Corp., Continental Bank Corp., both in Chicago, and PNC Financial Corp. in Pittsburgh.
