First National Bank in New Mexico Hires Chief

First National Bank of Santa Fe in New Mexico has a new leader.

The $1.7 billion-asset company said in a press release Monday that John Asbury had become its president and chief executive, succeeding Douglas Brown, who had been running the bank on an interim basis.

Asbury recently served as head of the business services group at Regions Financial in Birmingham, Ala. His background also includes 17 years at Bank of America.

"We have a heritage of providing financial services that help business leaders, entrepreneurs and individuals grow that dates back to 1870," Brown said in the release. Asbury's "depth of experience and vision for the future of First National will continue that commitment."

"It is with great pleasure that we announce John to lead the First National Family of Banks," says Brown.

First National, a unit of Strategic Growth Bancorp in El Paso, Texas, has 25 branches in New Mexico and Colorado.
