Fixed rates down slightly this week.

WASHINGTON - The Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corp. said lenders were offering 30-year conventional fixed-rate mortgages at an average rate of 6.95% this week.

That rate is down slightly from the 6.9% average a week ago and sharply from 8.02% a year earlier.

For 15-year fixed loans, the average was 6.4%, against 6.49% last week and 7.48% a year ago.
