Freddie Mac has hired mortgage industry veteran Bruce M. Witherell as chief operating officer effective Sept. 14, in the latest top management change at the government-sponsored mortgage company.
Last month Freddie Mac named finance industry veteran Charles E. Haldeman chief executive, succeeding interim CEO John Koskinen. At the time, Haldeman expressed eagerness to build a management team at Freddie, where such key positions as chief operating officer and chief finance officer remained unfilled.
Witherell, 49, was a managing director and a global co-head of Morgan Stanley's residential mortgage business. Before joining Morgan Stanley in 2006, he spent 15 years at Lehman Brothers in a variety of senior leadership roles.
