The two companies plan to announce the partnership today.

"This is a natural extension of the cash management offering that we provide to our banks, our clients," Brian Jou, the executive vice president of Fundtech's global product management group, said in an interview Monday.

Fundtech, a Jersey City technology company, provides hosted cash management services to 50 banking companies, Mr. Jou said. The company does not count the corporate clients using the system, he said, but its telephone help desk supports 20,000 users.

Bill Robertson, the director of Wausau's strategic partnership group, projected that 2,000 banks would begin to offer remote capture to their business customers in the next two or three years, as imaging technology matures and customers become more comfortable with it. Wausau is based in Mosinee, Wis.

"Banks are starting to gear it up from a marketing standpoint," Mr. Robertson said. "Smaller banks feel they have to gear up quickly."
