The pop-culture catchphrase of the summer — "That's a clown question, bro" — made an unexpected appearance Tuesday at a financial regulatory meeting.
Bart Chilton, a Democratic commissioner on the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, brought some color to a CFTC meeting by invoking the line popularized by Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper.
Referring to critics of the 2010 financial regulatory overhaul, Chilton asked: "Do we need Dodd-Frank? That's a clown question, bro."
The remarks came on the same day that Harper made his first appearance in baseball's All-Star Game. Last month the 19-year-old phenom's retort to a Toronto reporter sparked a seemingly endless cycle of jokes.
The "clown question, bro" meme has proven particularly popular in the nation's capital, where even Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid recently invoked it.
