Grant Thornton Hire

Grant Thornton has hired a former Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. employee as a managing director in its national bank regulatory practice.

Tariq Mirza was a senior advisor at the FDIC who provided technical advice to Chairman Sheila Bair on banking and regulatory issues. He was selected in 2008 to lead a team responsible for developing the FDIC loan modification program at the failed IndyMac Federal Bank, Grant Thornton, an accounting and advisory firm, said last week. Mirza was also involved in efforts to analyze the impact of the Dodd-Frank Act on the FDIC and community banks.

Before joining the chairman's office, Mirza managed the FDIC's Pacific Northwest territory, overseeing some 130 institutions.
