Andy Hornby, HBOS PLC's chief executive, became a victim of identity theft when a con man withdrew money from his accounts there, according to an article published Wednesday in the London newspaper The Sun.
Mr. Hornby had at least $13,000 stolen in a single day by the criminal, who probably used an old bank statement to pose as the CEO when he called a call center, the paper said, without naming a source.
Mark Elliott, a spokesman for the Edinburgh company, the United Kingdom's biggest mortgage lender, would not discuss the matter.
In January an identity thief stole almost $19,000 from Marcus Agius, the chairman of Barclays PLC.
