Heartland, Profits Up, Picks President

Heartland Payment Systems Inc. named its chief financial officer to the additional post of president and said its third-quarter earnings grew 16.2% from a year earlier, to $11.8 million, or 30 cents a share.

Revenue rose 20.8%, to $354.6 million, the Princeton, N.J., processor of card, payroll, and other payments said Thursday.

Robert Baldwin, the new president, will remain Heartland's CFO, a job he has held since 2000. The president position had been vacant since before Heartland went public in August 2005.

"Since joining Heartland, Bob has been a strong ally, a trusted voice for the company with Wall Street and our business partners, and a solid operating manager who intimately understands every aspect of our business," Bob Carr, Heartland's chairman and chief executive officer, said in a press release.

Heartland also promoted Alan Sims, who has worked with the company since 2000, to chief technology officer.

Marty Moretti, who joined Heartland in 2002, was named to a newly established position, chief service officer. His duties will include managing the company's service center in Jeffersonville, Ind.
