HSBC Appoints Head of North American Commercial Banking

HSBC North America Holdings Inc. said Tuesday that it has named a longtime executive its new head of commercial banking for North America.

Stephen Bottomley, who has been with the company for almost 30 years, will manage HSBC's commercial banking operations in the U.S., Canada and Bermuda. He succeeds Mark Watkinson, who was named chief executive for Malta.

Bottomley previously was HSBC's head of strategy and planning for the Middle East and North Africa region. He has also held positions as the bank's head of European strategy, commercial banking for the United Kingdom and commercial finance in Europe.

Based in New York, Bottomley will report to Alan Keir, group managing director and global head of commercial banking, and Irene Dorner, group general manager, president and CEO of HSBC USA.
