The supercomputer, which has beat two champions of the game show "Jeopardy!", was hired by Citigroup Inc. last week to find ways to help "analyze customer needs and process vast amount of up-to-the minute financial, economic and client data," a joint press release said.

Citigroup hopes that Watson can be trained to read and understand 200 million pages in a matter of seconds in order to help identify risks and rewards, according to media reports.

"IBM continues to advance Watson in information-intensive industries, enabling organizations to quickly gain valuable insights from vast amounts of data that can speed decision-making and improve how companies serve their customers," Mike Rhodin, senior vice president for IBM Software Solutions, said in the release.

Citi said it would be looking to for ways to use Watson's deep-content analytics, natural language processing and evidence-based learning with how the company interacts with customers to advance digital banking.

Plus, it can always use Watson to go head to head with another former "Jeopardy!" champ, Richard Cordray, who is the director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
