In Brief: 1st Union Shifts Georgia Exec to Florida Bank

First Union Corp. has named a new addition to the management team of its $40 billion-asset Florida bank.

On Friday, David M. Carroll, president of First Union's Georgia bank since 1994, took the title of president of First Union Florida. Byron E. Hodnett, the Florida bank's president since 1992, became chief executive officer, a new post.

Succeeding Mr. Carroll as president of the Georgia bank is Thomas H. Pacer, who worked as head of Georgia's general banking group for the last three years.

"David's leadership in Georgia and throughout First Union shows a strong commitment to high performance, teamwork and a vision for how to meet the challenges of a changing financial services industry," said John R. Georgius, First Union's vice chairman. "Together they (Mr. Carroll and Mr. Hodnett) are an unbeatable combination."
