In Brief: ABA Readies Online Conference

WASHINGTON — The American Bankers Association is preparing to host the country’s first banking conference to be held entirely online.

ABA US Banking 2001 will be held June 4-15. Participants can register free at the association’s Web site.

Each day of the conference will focus on a single topic such as marketing, privacy, money laundering, insurance and credit risk, and technology. There will be more than 20 sessions and their content will be posted for up to a year after the event.

Michael ter Maat, director of the association’s information products and programs, said ABA US Banking 2001 “will have the look and feel of a traditional conference; plus it will be virtual, free, and continuous. Anyone can log on to view presentations, question the experts, network with other participants — all from the convenience of their computer.”

The trade group’s production partner on the project is RMR International, which specializes in developing online conferences.
