OMAHA In its first expansion outside Nebraska, American National Bank announced Friday that it had agreed to buy $260 million-asset Peoples National Bank in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Neither of the privately held banks would disclose the price.
The companies said in a joint statement that the banks names and management would be unchanged and that no offices or branches would be closed. Customers will be able to conduct business at either bank after the merger, they said.
Liberty Bank in Salt Lake City had been "structurally unprofitable" since 2008, according to its regulators. Experts criticized the FDIC for allowing the bank's demise to play out in slow motion.
