In Brief: Amex Awards Double Miles on Delta Card

NEW YORK — American Express Co. is giving cardholders two air-mile points for every eligible dollar they charge in certain categories on its Delta SkyMiles credit cards.

The Always Double Miles program applies to transactions at supermarkets, gas stations, drugstores, home improvement stores, the U.S. Postal Service, wireless phone bills, and Delta Air Lines.

For purchases at other types of retailers, cardholders continue to earn one SkyMile per dollar spent.

American Express is also promoting its cobranded airline card with a bonus offer: The first 10,000 people who apply for the Delta card after Oct. 1 are eligible to have up to 50,000 miles any airline’s frequent-flier program, including Delta’s, matched and deposited into a SkyMiles account. To qualify, cardholders must charge at least $10,000 within six months.

“We believe the new Delta SkyMiles card offers the richest airline rewards around,” said Richard Quigley, vice president of cobrand marketing at American Express. “The new Always Double Miles feature will help you get the travel rewards you want, twice as fast.”
