In Brief: Amex Hires Boston Retirement Sales VP

MINNEAPOLIS — American Express Retirement Services has hired Patrick Murphy as the vice president responsible for sales in the Boston area.

He will develop relationships with potential retirement plan customers and with consultants for companies that have at least $20 million in defined contribution plan assets.

Mr. Murphy, whose hiring was announced Tuesday, sold retirement benefits plans for Putnam Investments in the Minneapolis and Chicago markets.

He also spent five years in client relationship management for some of Putnam’s largest clients.

Previously he worked in the defined contribution services division of Mutual of New York.
