In Brief: Bank 1 Hires Derivatives Marketing Head

CHICAGO — Bank One Corp. has hired Laurence Smith, formerly of Bear, Stearns & Co., as head of equity derivatives marketing.

Mr. Smith, who brings 16 years of experience to his new post, was managing director of equity derivatives at New York-based Bear Stearns.

He will manage Bank One’s corporate and private client services practices, reporting to J.D. Cronin, the managing director of equity derivatives.

“Larry Smith’s experience, professionalism, and knowledge will help us provide effective derivative solutions to a wider range of customers,” Mr. Cronin said in a press release.

Mr. Smith, 38, began his career as a trading analyst at Bankers Trust in New York, then moved to Asia and London as a derivatives marketer and manager. He joined Bear Stearns in 1999.
