In Brief: BB&T Becomes 11th Nacha Bank Member

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - BB&T Corp. has become the 11th banking company to join Nacha, the electronic payment association.

The group's bank members can cast votes directly on automated clearing house operating rules and other electronic payment standards and rules governing the banking industry nationwide.

Nacha's other financial institution members are Bank of America Corp., Bank One Corp., Capital One Financial Corp., Citigroup Inc., First Union Corp., FleetBoston Financial Corp., J.P. Morgan Chase & Co., Mellon Financial Corp., Wachovia Corp., and Wells Fargo & Co.

The bank members originated more than 57% of commercial ACH transactions last year.

BB&T has assets of $62.1 billion and 893 branches in the Carolinas, Georgia, Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Washington, D.C.
