In Brief: Canadian Portal Gets Help for Going Mobile

The Canadian financial services portal i-money has chosen Davinci Technologies Inc. to develop mobile access methods for wireless communication devices.

The arrangement makes i-money information services such as stock quotes and financial calculators available immediately to Bell Mobility customers with Qualcomm QCP-2700 and QCP-2700F phones. Other Web-enabled devices for personal communications services are to follow.

Toronto-based Davinci won the deal "because of its demonstrated ability to rapidly deploy wireless applications, as well as a thorough understanding of the new and swiftly changing wireless environment," said Gordon MacLeod, vice president of research and development at i-money, which includes among its participants Royal Bank Action Direct, Charles Schwab Canada, TD Bank, Montreal Trust, and Fidelity Investments.

"We think consumers are going to be excited about the things they can and will be able to do with their wireless phones, and i-money is committed to working with Davinci to enrich the content and services available to Bell Mobility customers," Mr. MacLeod said.
