Cendant Corp. said Monday that it has had fired Ernst & Young LLP as accountants for its CUC unit, and that its main accountant, Deloitte & Touche LLP, would take over the CUC duties.

In April, Cendant disclosed accounting "irregularities" in the bookkeeping at CUC, its discount shopping club unit. Ernst & Young did not respond to a request for comment by press time.

Cendant, which was formed last year by the merger of CUC International Inc. and HFS Inc., a franchiser of such businesses as Avis rental cars and Howard Johnson's hotels, said it expects to issue audited financial statements this summer.
