In Brief: CEO Named for Firstar-U.S. Bancorp Unit

MILWAUKEE — Thomas Schreier, head of equity research at U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray, has been named chief executive officer of the asset management unit that would be formed when Firstar Corp. completes its deal to buy U.S. Bancorp.

Mr. Schreier, 38, has led equity research at U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray for the past two years. During his tenure there he has doubled the number of senior research analysts.

Robert Peterson, co-head of Piper Jaffray equity research under Mr. Schreier, was named head of the unit. He had been the research unit’s co-head since May and before that had been a senior research analyst since 1993.
