Home sales in greater Chicago were off sharply in the first four months of 1995, according to a leading real estate information company.
Riverside, Calif.-based TRW Redi Property Data said home sales in the six-county Chicago region were 18.9% below the level during the comparable period in 1994. Average sales prices rose 0.8%, to $148,219.
In all, 31,560 residential sale deeds were recorded from Jan. 1 to April 30, versus 38,935 in the first four months of 1994, the company said.
The sharpest decline in sales volume was in homes priced between $250,001 and $325,000. Sales were down 23% from the year-earlier level, to 1,582 units.
Homes priced between $100,000 and $175,000 were the next-slowest category. Sales were down 20.2%, to 12,687 units.
