Citizens and Hanover Insurance Cos. in Worcester, Mass., said Monday that it had hired Douglas H. McDonough as the president of its Middle Atlantic region.

Mr. McDonough will manage sales and distribution for the companies' commercial and personal lines operations in Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Pennsylvania.
He was the St. Paul Travelers vice president in charge of commercial lines operations in the Middle Atlantic states. He was also responsible for distribution management and operations for the company's other business units there.
